    Severstal rolled a pilot lot of heavy plate steel at the 5000mm mill for the Izhora Pipe Plant under construction. When reporting this event Technical Director Alexander Stepanov stated that for the first time in Russia a united complex comprising a plate mill and a pipe making facility was being set up in order to produce 1420mm longitudinal-welded long-distance pipes of 18.3m long. Severstal specialists are convinced that the products will have certain competitive advantages in the Russian market due to, first, higher quality of the product proper and, second, longer product size as compared with analogs which will lead to less welding during construction of long-distance pipelines....
