    A decade ago the era of government control in the Russian iron-and-steel and non-ferrous metal industries came to an end. In 1996, at one of the stages of the administrative reform the last successor of the USSR Ministry of Metallurgy – the RF Committee for Metallurgy – was abolished. At the same time, the reform gave rise to the formation of the first management companies aimed to consolidate the assets and efforts of steel and non-ferrous metal producers separated from the former single whole in the course of privatization.
